Coffin Bay is a summer playground for many families and fishermen alike – where the sheltered bays and white sandy beaches offer up world renown oysters, delectable blue swimmer crabs, and the tasty King George Whiting. Where Australian Premium White refers to the wheat for bread making and fats refer to the prime fat lambs produced in the area. Discover the scenic beauty and taste sensations of Eyre Peninsula.
The waters surrounding Port Lincoln are home to arguably the best seafood in Australia and the One Day Oceans and Oysters tour allows you to get a behind the scenes glimpse of a very tasty part of this industry.
Heading west from Port Lincoln we pass prime farming land that generates wheat, sheep and canola exports for the world markets.
Cresting the foothills of Mount Dutton we see for miles from Farm Beach across the expansive Coffin Bay to Point Sir Isaac in the west. The Dutton Bay Woolshed introduces us to the early history of wool in the district and enjoy morning tea over looking Dutton Bay.
We continue on to the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm where we learn of the “Oyster Town” history and witness the grading and packing of the world famous delicacy, fresh and ready for Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne markets. Learn of the world’s best practices used to ensure premium quality is delivered to the consumer, fresh and tasty. (Fresh produce can be purchased at own expense)
Our next stop is a Yabbie farm – these interesting little creatures are grown in channels cut out of the land and appear on many local and interstate menus as a tasty delicacy. (Fresh produce can be purchased at own expense)
Known as a sleepy fishing village, for its oysters, and as a summer water holiday playground for families, Coffin Bay also boasts The Oyster Bed Restaurant, known for its seasonal menu, friendly service and the perfect lunch time stop, over looking the bay.
The afternoon sees us exploring the Coffin Bay National Park with its spectacular coastal wilderness environments. Enjoy a refreshing walk along a pristine ocean beach, watch the relentless Antarctic swells form into surf and rush the rocks and sand refreshing the endless foot print free beaches. Walk the sheltered grasslands teaming with wildlife hidden deep within the Mallee scrublands. We return to Port Lincoln in the late afternoon, via Big Swamp to view the Black Swans.
